Cholistan - Bahawalpur
Leaving the modern highway Islamabad. Karachi we enter the city of Bahawalpur having as our final destination, the sightseeings Derawar fort 9th-century monument. The Abbasi Mosque built in 1849 and the historical Shrine of Hazrat Jalaluddin BykhariUch Sharif of 12th century Unesco Mausoleum.
Bahawalpur belongs to Prefecture of Punjab, a rich agricultural city, found on the crossroad of trade paths, sunk in the sounds and colors of the East unique, unexpected, it entices you and you get in love with it.
It struggles with the modern and the traditional, a sort of adoration for its cultural heritage, in the area of Indus River Plain.
Wonderful imposing buildings of rare architectural beauty such as Noor Mahal, Darbar Mahal... witness its majestic past,
while the cultural points of the Archaeological Museum, the Library... continue its way to the intellectual uplifting.
The city stands out as a Queen in the area, the desert Cholistan spreads out in front of her, extending till the Desert Thar of India, immersing yourself in surprising silence.
Derawar Fort is built in the desert, presenting both a huge and impressive infrastructure, with the high bastions to be seen by miles away.
I had seen it, in illustrations books of children's fairytales for the East. Looking at it, Its magic was spellbound and I became a part of its fairytale.
Around it, small Nomad Villages with few cattle, insisting on living as their ancestors, running after the rain's water.
Heroines and Heroes of the desert appear without making any noise as if they don't want to disturb the silence of the vastness, nested in the sand with the sweet smell of cleanliness.
Far away sounds come in my ears, from the Fort's restoration and renovation,
Children's undemanding, carefree voices (will they ever leave this place?) I thought.
The breeze brings from away, the lyrics of the song "Sing Camel Man"
"Don't cry for the love they took from you,
this is your fate to have the sound as your love"
Exotic Bahawalpur!!!
How much do I want to see you again!
